Magpie Ducks

The Magpie is originally from Britain and was first bred after World War 1 but their exact ancestry is not entirely known. Breeding documentation dates back to the 1920’s, and it has been said that their ancestry may have included the Indian Runner. Magpies were first exported to the United States in 1963. Today Magpies are commonly raised for showing although they were originally bred as a commercial utility bird for eggs and meat as their egg production is high and their breast feathers are white so the carcass plucks clean.

Magpies make a great addition to any yard with their black and white splash of color, their quiet nature, and their calm demeanor.
